The 2009 Concierge Classic is benefiting the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas along with the Austin Humane Society.

Austin Lyric Opera Beer & Wine Smackdown

Austin Lyric Opera Beer & Wine Smackdown

Austin Lyric Opera General Director Kevin Patterson, a microbrewer, and Kevin Leahy, a local wine enthusiast, will compete to see who is better at pairing their preferred beverage with various foods provided by local restaurants. Their pairings will be judged by local celebrities/food critics. Attendees can judge for themselves as they taste the 5 food, wine and beer combinations. Proceeds from ticket sales benefit Austin Lyric Opera and the Armstrong Community Music School.

This month the Blanton celebrates the grand opening of the Edgar A. Smith Building, the final building of the museum's complex. This 56,000 sq-ft structure will house the new Blanton Café, an expanded Museum Shop, a 299-seat auditorium, classrooms, and administrative offices.

At 2 PM, noted critic and art historian Jed Perl, will give a engaging lecture,Watteau's World: The Mysterious Life and Magnificent Afterlife of an 18th-century Painter, in conjunction with his new book on the artist Antoine’s Alphabet. Event followed by book signing.
